Australian supermodel Gemma Ward has revealed she sustained a serious spinal injury following a recent surfing accident.
In a candid social media post, the 36-year-old former runway icon shared a photo showing her wearing a neck brace, disclosing that she broke three vertebrae. This marked her first update in over four months, with her previous post dating back to January 22.
“A lot has happened since I last posted,” Ward wrote alongside the mirror selfie, explaining the severity of her injury.
Despite the accident, Ward continued to pursue her professional commitments, including a recent photoshoot in Paris. However, she disclosed an additional hurdle: “In the wake of my accident, I forgot to renew my passport, so I had to get an emergency one and nearly missed the whole shoot.”
Ward rose to international fame in the early 2000s, becoming one of Australia’s most recognizable fashion faces. Her openness about the injury sheds light on the challenges faced by athletes and models alike in balancing recovery and work.
