Minnesota DNR Reminds Boaters to Prioritize Safety

by Allen

As the fishing and boating season progresses, safety officials from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are urging boaters and anglers to prioritize water safety. With the arrival of warmer weather and increased activity on lakes and rivers, these vital precautions are essential for ensuring the safety of everyone on the water.

The DNR emphasizes the importance of two critical safety items for all boating excursions: life jackets and engine cut-off switches.

“Children under the age of ten are legally required to wear life jackets at all times while on the water,” said Lisa Dugan, spokeswoman for the Minnesota DNR. “Adults should also make sure to bring and wear their life jackets, and always be vigilant about proper behavior on board. Additionally, it’s crucial to bring along an engine cut-off switch whenever you’re in the boat, as it can help prevent accidents in the event of an unexpected fall overboard.”

The DNR’s reminder underscores the importance of maintaining safety standards throughout the entirety of the fishing and boating season, helping ensure that outdoor recreational activities are both enjoyable and safe for all participants.
