Sunshine Coast Crowns Shortboard and Kneeboard Champions

The Queensland State Surfing Titles witnessed thrilling competition this past weekend at Ann Street, Currimundi, as Shortboard Masters and Kneeboard competitors battled for state honors and qualification spots for the upcoming National Surfing Titles.

With a consistent three-foot swell rolling in, the Sunshine Coast provided ideal conditions for 21 divisions, ranging from Over 30 to Over 65, to showcase their surfing expertise.

Among the standout performances was Serena Brooke, who clinched victory in the Over 40 Women’s Shortboard division. Brooke’s triumph marked a significant return to the State Titles after a 33-year hiatus. Having secured second place at the ISA World Masters Surfing Championships last year, she expressed enthusiasm for representing Queensland at Nationals.

“It was fantastic to compete at the State Titles again after so many years,” Brooke said. “I’m excited to surf for Queensland at Nationals. Honestly, I didn’t even realise you could enter two divisions! I’m really glad I entered this year.”

Terry Landsberg was another notable competitor, securing wins in both the Over 55 and Over 60 Men’s Shortboard divisions. He praised the high calibre of surfing displayed across all categories.

“The talent on show over the past two days has been truly inspirational,” Landsberg remarked. “The waves offered excellent scoring potential, which made the competition especially enjoyable. Conditions like these aren’t common, so I’m keen to get back out there for another surf after this event wraps up.”

The Queensland Surf Championships continue tomorrow with the Stand-Up Paddle Board (SUP) divisions taking to the water for the fourth day of competition. Swell conditions are expected to remain consistent, maintaining the quality surf seen throughout the event. The Championships operate as a mobile event along the Sunshine Coast.

Surfing Queensland extended gratitude to its corporate partners for their ongoing support, including Suzuki Queensland, DriTimes, We Are Feel Good Inc, QMS, Queensland Government, Sunshine Coast Council, The Point Coolum, and Mogu Mogu.
