A sunset charity hike will take place on the summer solstice, offering participants a scenic and meaningful way to welcome the season while raising funds for a vital cause.
Organised by the St David’s Hospice Foundation, the event is scheduled for Saturday, June 21, 2025, and will see walkers ascend Twmbarlwm, an Iron Age hillfort overlooking the South Wales landscape.
The hike will begin from Cwmcarn Forest Drive, with registration opening at 6:30 p.m. and the walk setting off at 7 p.m. The route is expected to conclude by 10 p.m.
Entry for the event starts at £5, with all proceeds supporting the hospice’s work in providing palliative care across the region.
Described by organisers as a “mindful charity walk,” the event aims to blend physical activity with peaceful reflection. Participants will be treated to panoramic views of Newport and the Severn Estuary, with the timing designed to coincide with the sunset on the longest day of the year.
Live entertainment will accompany the event. Local musician Anna Young will perform as walkers set off and return, while Welsh bagpiper Matthew Bartlett will play at the summit, creating a memorable atmosphere as the sun sets over the landscape.
