Ashton International College Ballito delivered an impressive performance at the KwaZulu-Natal Schools Surfing League Championships held in Durban last Friday (June 6), with their girls’ surfers sweeping the top four positions in the individual event.
Catherine Jacob claimed first place, followed by Frances Wang, Coco Clark, and Lola Wang, completing an all-North Coast podium. In the boys’ individual competition, Zak Tredoux secured third place.
These individual successes helped Ashton’s first team clinch second place in the overall team standings, while their second team finished eighth. The event was hosted at Durban’s Dairy Beach, a prominent venue for surfing competitions.
As a result of their strong showing, Ashton has qualified for the South African Schools Surfing Championships, set to take place later this year.
Netball: Ashton’s First Team Faces Setbacks at DStv Schools Netball Challenge
Meanwhile, Ashton International College’s first team netballers faced a challenging weekend at the 2025 DStv Schools Netball Challenge at Hoy Park in Durban on Saturday (June 7).
Twelve schools competed for three spots at the national finals scheduled for July 25 to 27 at Hoërskool Dr. E.G. Jansen in Boksburg. Ashton lost their opening match 12-27 against Shayamoya Area Secondary School and were defeated 16-29 by Isikhalisezwe High School in their second game. These results mean Ashton will not advance to this year’s nationals.
Soccer: Ashton Boys’ Team Narrowly Defeated
On Thursday (June 5), Ashton’s boys’ soccer team traveled to Queensburgh to face Amanzimtoti in their KwaZulu-Natal schools league match. In a closely contested game, Amanzimtoti edged Ashton 2-1, earning a hard-fought victory.

The boys’ outdoor hockey first team played a friendly against Madsen XI, narrowly losing 1-2.
In surfing, Ashton’s first team finished second overall, while the second team placed eighth.
In individual surfing finals, Catherine Jacob took first place, Frances Wang second, Coco Clark third, and Lola Wang fourth in the girls’ category. Zak Tredoux finished third in the boys’ competition.
Netball’s first team faced two defeats: 12-27 against Shayamoya and 16-29 against Isikhalisezwe.
