The 120th edition of the B.C. Women’s Amateur, Mid-Amateur, and Mid-Master Championships officially began Tuesday at the Victoria Golf Club, bringing together the province’s top female amateur golfers. The tournament will run through Thursday, determining the provincial champions across three competitive divisions.
Featuring a 54-hole stroke play format, the event has attracted a field of 75 participants vying for the prestigious titles. Top finishers will earn spots in the 2025 Canadian Women’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championships, scheduled for this summer at Riverside Country Club in Saint John, New Brunswick.
The last time Vancouver Island hosted the B.C. Women’s Amateur Championship was in 2023 at Arbutus Ridge Golf Club, where Chelsea Truong of Victoria claimed the title. Truong, currently a sophomore on the University of New Mexico’s NCAA Division I golf team, is competing again this year. Also returning is 16-year-old Amy Seung Hyun Lee of Langley, last year’s champion at the Balfour Course in Nelson, who advanced to the 2024 Canadian Women’s Amateur held at Royal Colwood.
This marks the first occasion since 2005 that Victoria Golf Club is hosting the B.C. Women’s Amateur. The club has a rich history of staging major tournaments, including the 2023 PGA of B.C. Women’s Championship, the 2021 regional qualifier for the U.S. Women’s Amateur, and the 2018 Men’s Canadian Mid-Amateur.
Victoria Golf Club’s lead professional, Lindsay Bernakevitch, expressed enthusiasm about hosting the event: “We have a proud history of hosting provincial and national championships and are very excited to once again showcase our club and see the best players from across our province compete on our course. Our course is a very strategic one.”
